Are YOU having a street party?

With Prince William and Kate Middleton set to make their vows in front of the entire nation on Friday 29 April and an estimated 2 billion people watching on TV, it seems everyone is getting in the spirit.

Councils have received over 5,000 applications to hold a street party in their neighbourhood. That's a lot of roads that need closing by the authorities, but it's nice to see no one seems to be complaining or slapping health and safety rules on proceedings.

Sales in alcohol, party food and of course, bunting, have all seen a sharp increase as people prepare to toast in celebration to the happy couple, and enjoy a good bit of food and drink for the occasion. Hundreds of people are also set to camp out in the surrounding area of Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace, with giant television screens playing out proceedings.

The south are leading the way in the amount of street party applications received, with the north returning some disappointing figures. It's good to see the British people getting behind and supporting a Royal event and showing that British pride and spirit is still very much alive and well.

According to YourCanterbury, here in Kent we are holding more parties than anywhere else in the UK! Over 60 events are expected to take place throughout the day, so fingers crossed that the weather stays nice and sunny!

All the major television networks are providing coverage of the day, starting at Westminster Abbey at around 8.30am and carrying on unil about 4 in the afternoon. Presenters for the day include This Morning's Philip Scholfield for ITV, with the BBC looking like they're trying to attract the younger audience with Radio 1 DJs Fearne Cotton and Edith Bowman as presenters. All the traditional newsreader faces will be there as well with what is set to be a historical day in British history.
